We open our week up with a little history on Gianni. Born Giovanni Maria Versace; on December 2, 1946. Gianni was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy. Gianni was a middle child with an older brother Santo, and a younger sister Donatella. His mother was a dress maker and Gianni use to spend much of his childhood days with her, watching her, and dreaming.Many say that Gianni was an apprentice of his mother, who ran a workshop and employed many seamstresses.

However, Gianni did not concentrate his studies in the world of fashion. He actually studied architecture before moving to Milan at the age of 26 to work in fashion design. In the mid-1970s, Gianni drew the attention of headhunters at Genny and Callaghan. Gianni was hired to design their lace/leather collections, and later, encouraged by his success, Gianni presented his first signature collection for women at the Palazzo della Permanente Art Museum of Milan. His first fashion show followed in September of the same year. After presenting his menswear collection he joined Jorge Saud, who would later also become a partner with Giorgio Armani.

Gianni went on to have an incredible career in fashion and beauty, with a life full of triumph and tragedy.
